The Division of Programming at the Utah Department of Corrections was created in April 2007 to emphasize the importance of programming in achieving offender success. Research has repeatedly shown that education, vocational training and treatment are vital components to reduced recidivism rates. To that end, UDC programming staff continue to work tirelessly to expand programming opportunities for offenders while streamlining the process across all areas of the Department.
Offenders' programming needs are assessed as soon as they walk in the prison gates, and UDC staff create a plan that will follow offenders through their parole. This offers an efficient, cost-effective and productive process for the delivery of programming, which increases the chances of offender success while also ensuring greater public safety in Utah communities.
