Fred House Academy

The Utah Department of Corrections training facility in Draper, Utah, is named in honor of Lt. Fred F. House, who was killed in the line of duty on Jan. 28, 1988. Lt. House was shot to death while attempting to deploy his K-9 partner during a protracted standoff with religious fundamentalists in Marion, Utah. Lt. House's assailant, who was barricaded inside the home, later surrendered and was convicted of manslaughter. He remains barricaded in a federal prison.
