The Training Academy's In-Service Training Unit is responsible for providing and developing ongoing training for all Department staff.
Certified officers (both law enforcement and correctional officers) are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of training per year to maintain POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification.
Non-certified staff members are asked to complete training each year designed to enhance job performance and limit liability. Development and instructor level training courses are scheduled to increase performance capability, improve the overall level of service and provide a high level of instruction for all training programs.
The In-Service Unit also coordinates with individual divisions to help with development of curricula and schedules for Field Training Officer programs and on-site training classes.
