The Training Academy's Pre-Service Unit provides training for correctional officers statewide. Students may be training to work for the Utah Department of Corrections in institutional or field operations, or to work as a jail officer in one of the county jails. Pre-Service training includes:
- The Special Function Officer block, which is provided to all law enforcement officers and correctional officers.
- The Basic Correctional Officer block, provided to correctional officers
- The Advanced Corrections block, provided to Department of Corrections officers
