Welcome

Welcome to the Utah Department of Corrections. We are a State agency responsible for overseeing all areas of adult corrections in Utah.

The nearly 2,400 employees of the Utah Department of Corrections come to work every day with two priorities in mind - ensuring public safety and encouraging offender success. Dedicated Corrections employees help ensure the safety of Utah's communities by supervising some 6,500 incarcerated inmates and another 16,000 offenders on probation and parole.

Though public safety is, and will remain, the Department's top priority, it is also our aim to prevent continued criminal behavior by equipping offenders to successfully rejoin society upon their release from prison. The Utah Department of Corrections has placed an increased focus in recent years on programming opportunities for offenders, including high school and secondary education, substance abuse and sex offender treatment, and vocational training. The Department is fortunate to have valuable partners in sister agencies and community organizations to help meet these needs.

We are always looking for innovative and creative ways to achieve our goals. We strive to be on the forefront of emerging trends that can increase our effectiveness while also saving taxpayer dollars. Our clinical staff has led this charge by reducing medical transports of inmates through the use of telemedicine, which allows inmates to be evaluated by a medical specialist without leaving prison property.
