DNA Program

Corrections’ DNA program is monitored in the administrative office of the Division of Adult Probation and Parole by the department DNA coordinator.

As outlined in Utah State Statue 53-10-404, the Department of Corrections is one of more than 30 agencies responsible to obtain DNA samples and collect the related DNA fee from offenders convicted of class A misdemeanors or felonies. Our primary responsibility with regard to DNA is to obtain samples from all offenders under the supervision of or in the custody of Corrections.

The DNA coordinator is responsible to purchase and distribute DNA kits to all responsible agencies in Utah and may also provide training and help agencies set up DNA collection programs.

Additional DNA related statue can be found in Utah Code Sections 53-10-401 through 53-10-407. Department policy is under AGr22, DNA Specimen Collection.
