Sex Offender Registration Unit

The Sex Offender Registration Unit is responsible for managing the Sex Offender Notification and Registry (SONAR) for the State of Utah. We process thousands of registrations every year, and share information on registered sex offenders with the public via the registry website. The unit currently has five office specialists whose job it is to:

• Process sex offender registrations and enter all supplied information into the registry for public viewing
  
  
• Review pre-sentence investigation reports and police reports for specific crime information that may be accessed by local law enforcement in local investigations
  
  
• Work with local law enforcement regarding non-compliant registrants
  
  
• Work with courts and other states' registration units concerning registrants
  
  
• Receive and process tips from and provide information to the public
  
  
• Deal with and keep track of the approximately 6,700 offenders currently on the registry
