The mission of the Utah State Prison Draper Site and CUCF libraries is to provide high-quality library services and materials for an underserved population of incarcerated individuals. There are more than 45,000 items in the collection divided between the libraries in the following facilities: Lone Peak, Olympus, Oquirrh, Promontory, Timpanogos and Wasatch. Our libraries directly serve more than 3,000 inmate patrons in these facilities, and indirectly provide services for approximately 800 inmates in the Uinta Facility.

Available Services

Library services to the inmate population are provided according to their classification and privilege level, as well as their housing assignment. The libraries in each of the facilities attempt to function as small public libraries. Reading materials in the libraries range from wide interest level with low vocabulary skills to college level and technical books. As a library, interlibrary loans are available from the State Library to the majority of the inmate population. Special arrangements are made to assist inmates who qualify for this service.

The Draper Site Libraries receive a portion of their support from the community by requesting and receiving material donations from individuals and groups that have a desire to support our mission. We also seek funding to increase our collections with grants available from the community.

Goal #1

The Library supplements the education and therapy programs of the correctional institutions and provides recreational and self-improvement materials to the inmates.

Goal #2

Library services are a management tool and an informational resource for inmates. The libraries help inmates use their time in a constructive and positive manner. Most people who enjoy reading like to do so in a quiet place. Therefore, units where inmates are encouraged to read can become less noisy and calmer housing facilities.
