Substance Abuse Treatment
Utah State Prison
There are two Residential Therapeutic Community (TC) Substance Abuse Treatment programs at the Utah State Prison. The Con-Quest Program is for male offenders, and the Ex-Cell Program is for the female offenders. These programs provide the foundation and support for offenders to deal appropriately with their substance issues and addictive behaviors. These TCs use the community as the method of treatment to provide a consistent and reliable format that encourages positive risk taking in order to make personal improvements in all aspects of their lives.
Con-Quest
Each Con-Quest resident is expected to participate in classes and in group and individual therapy, as offered by Con-Quest staff. Residents are also required to attend orientation, rational thinking, criminal lifestyles, wellness, living with others, lifestyle balance, recovery and maintenance, transition, choice and change and Why Try classes. Generally treatment will last between 12 and 18 months.
Ex-Cell
Ex-Cell residents are expected to participate in classes as well as in group and individual therapy, as offered by Ex-Cell staff. Residents are also required to attend personal change, wellness, communication, living with others, co-dependency, budgeting, criminal lifestyles, cognitive self change, self esteem, relapse prevention, grieving and Why Try Classes. Generally treatment will last between six and nine months.
Other Treatment Options
Substance abuse educational classes are offered for offenders who are waiting to participate in the Ex-Cell or Con-Quest programs. Other options are available in the HOPE substance abuse program at the Central Utah Correctional Facility and at county jails.
