Visitation Information
How to visit
The Utah Department of Corrections encourages family and friends of inmates to visit them as their privilege level allows. Visitors must be approved and must make an appointment prior to visiting.
Email is our main source of communication. Please look out for changes or cancelations to visits. With our current staffing shortage and the number of tasks our visiting staff must handle, we may not answer the phone when you call. An email is the best way to ensure you receive a timely answer to your inquiry.
When you submit a visitor application or a request for visitation, our response will come via email. DO NOT attempt to call to confirm a visitation time the day of the visit.
Studies have shown that inmates who visit regularly with supporters have a markedly improved chance of success when they are eventually released back into the community.
It is, however, important to review visitation regulations prior to attempting to meet with an offender, whether he or she is housed at the Utah State Correctional Facility, Central Utah Correctional Facility or in one of the county jails.
You can find information about our regulations below, as well as current visiting schedules here.
Please check our website regularly to find out whether any special conditions apply to the facility you plan to visit. The conditions may change daily.
Please arrive 15 minutes early for video visiting and 30 minutes early for in-person visiting.
Step-by-step
Learn about visitation
Start by learning how to apply to become a visitor, the policies and procedures around visiting, and how to schedule a visit.
Apply for visitation
Once you're familiar with how visitation works, you can fill out an application. There are two ways to apply:
- Use the PDF Form here. You can print the form out and fill it in by hand, or you can fill the form out virtually on your computer/tablet/phone. Instructions for submitting the form are located on the bottom of the last page. OR
- Use the online visiting application here. This is the newest and most efficient way to submit an application to become a visitor. Sometimes, however, this application experiences errors. If you experience an error, please tell us about it with the “Give Feedback” button on the side of the page so we can continue to improve your experience.
For forms and more information on how to fill out the application, please see the visitation application information.
Wait for approval
The visitation team will review your submitted application, perform the necessary background and other checks, and reach out to you via email once their checks are complete. Then they will be ready for you to schedule a visit.Schedule your visit
Once your application to become a visitor is approved, you are ready to schedule a visit.
- Start this process by finding out where your family member or friend is housed by using the Offender Search Tool. If the tool is offline, you can also call our visitation hotline (801-522-7046) and request the information over the phone, or by email via [email protected].
- Once you know where the incarcerated individual is housed, you can visit the visitation schedules section, scroll down to find the housing unit you would like to schedule a visit for, and click on the “Schedule ____ visits” link for that housing unit.
- Fill out the Google Form and submit it to request a visit.

Visitation schedules
The following are the current video and in-person visiting schedules at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City and the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison.
Please review all clothing and dress standards here. Exceptions will not be made for in-person or video visits. It is important to follow the dress standards entirely to avoid missing out on a visit. Common clothing items that will not be permitted include:
- Any clothing with a hood
- Tank tops
- Jeans or pants with tears in them
- Yoga style pants or leggings
- Open toed footwear (sandals, etc.)
- Low cut shirts
Failure to abide by the clothing standard will result in not being allowed inside the facility (in-person visits) or having the video feed terminated (video visits).
Only sign up for one time slot per visiting day. Signing up for multiple time slots on the same day will result in all sign ups for that day being denied. Please allow up to two days for a verification email to arrive. If you cannot make the time you sign up for, do not just sign up for another time on the same day. Please notify visiting staff via email or phone so that the original time slot can be cancelled for someone else to use.
Inmates may be from 15 minutes early to 15 minutes late for their visit. Please be patient as we continue to refine our systems. To accommodate this, all video visitors should be 15 minutes early. Please arrive 30 minutes early for your in-person visit.
PLEASE NOTE: Recording or photographing any portion of a video visit is prohibited. Visits may not be live streamed or otherwise posted to any social media account. Any violation will result in a suspension of visiting privileges for both the inmate and the visitor.
