The Utah State Prison moved to its present location in 1951. Today, it houses approximately 4,500 offenders (male and female) in eight separate facilities. Inmates at the Utah State Prison are able, depending on their status and individual needs, to engage in a variety of programs, including high school education, vocational training, sex-offender treatment and intensive residential substance abuse treatment.

Movement for all inmates eligible to participate in various programs is restricted to specific times; staff conduct several counts each day to account for each and every inmate in the prison system.

The Canyons School District operates the South Park Academy at the prison, which provides inmates with the opportunity to earn high school diplomas. Davis Applied Technology College offers six different vocational certificate programs for Utah State Prison inmates.

Male inmates with substance abuse issues may participate in the Con-Quest program, while the ExCell program offers the same opportunity for female inmates. Both residential programs operate on a therapeutic-community model.

For information on individual facilities within the Utah State Prison complex, see links on the right.
