Utah Department of Corrections

Please join us in taking a moment today to remember Stephen R. Anderson, who died eight years ago in the line of duty. He was killed while accompanying an inmate being treated at a local hospital.

We'd like to share with you how Officer Anderson continues to be an influence for good and example of the tremendous risk officers face every day in their efforts to protect the public.

In May, we received a letter from a student at Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, California. The student said she was taking a criminal justice class and was assigned to do a research paper on a fallen officer. The students could select an officer from any state in the country.

She chose Officer Anderson.

"I am truly sorry to hear about your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and your Department," the student said in her letter. "I admire any police officer/Corrections officer because the only people that can successfully do the job are selfless and caring. They put their lives on the line for us every day. Thank you and our Department for your service!"

We couldn't have said it better, and today we remember Officer Anderson with love and appreciation.
