The Utah Safety Council recognized Utah Correctional Industries at its annual safety awards ceremony with the 2018 Achievement in Safety by an Organization award.
The award is given to one organization each year to show appreciation for its generosity and outstanding achievement and concern for the safety of the citizens of Utah.
UCI’s safety program includes employee onboarding training, safety audits, weekly safety reminders, shop safety meetings and ongoing training for staff and inmates. UDC Interim Deputy Executive Director Jim Hudspeth and UCI Deputy Director Maria Peterson accepted the award on behalf of the department.
“We are honored to receive this award that acknowledges all of our UCI team members who are committed to creating safe work spaces for our employees and inmate participants,” said Peterson. “The safety council is a fantastic resource for us to continually improve our safety program and we are grateful for their continued support of our efforts.”
The Utah Safety Council is a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Safety Council. It provides programs and services to about 900 businesses and organizations in Utah including occupational safety training, traffic safety and first aid certification.
