Executive Director
Brian Nielson serves as executive director of the Utah Department of Corrections. Prior to joining UDC, Sanpete County voters elected Brian Nielson to serve as Sheriff in 2010, a position in which he served for 10 years.
Nielson has served in a variety of other law enforcement roles including juvenile probation officer, police officer, wildlife conservation officer and school resource officer.
Nielson earned his associates degree from Snow College, bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and Masters of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University. Nielson also completed the Law Enforcement Leadership program at the University of Utah. Nielson is a Utah native along with his wife and three boys.
