The Atherton Community Treatment Center (ACTC), part of the Utah Department of Corrections within the Division of Re-entry and Rehabilitation, serves men on probation or parole who have mental health concerns. Located in West Valley City, ACTC provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment that balances public safety with the goal of preparing residents for successful reintegration into the community.

Our multidisciplinary team — made up of certified officers, case managers, therapists, and psychiatric technicians — works collaboratively to address the complex needs of each resident. This approach reflects our department’s commitment to staff investment, recognizing that a well-trained, healthy, and engaged team is essential to both safety and success. At ACTC, we equip our staff with specialized mental health training, foster professional growth, and maintain open communication to ensure they are prepared to meet the challenges of our work.

Safety is our highest priority, and we maintain a secure environment through rigorous screening, proactive intervention, and strict protocols to prevent and address illegal activity in our center and in the community. We encourage a culture of safe reporting, where feedback is used to improve operations and protect both staff and residents.

Our work thrives on collaboration, building strong relationships with probation and parole officers, mental health providers, treatment agencies, and community partners to create consistent support systems for residents during their stay and after release. We embrace innovation by applying new ideas, technology, and improved processes to enhance program delivery, engage residents more effectively, and streamline case management.

Above all, ACTC is centered on health and rehabilitation. We deliver targeted, intensive mental health treatment, individualized case management, and person-focused services that address the unique risks and needs of each resident. By integrating evidence-based programming with compassionate, accountable care, we reduce recidivism and help residents build the skills, stability, and support networks needed for lasting success.
