About Us
About the Utah Department of Corrections
The Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) comprises nearly 2,300 employees who supervise over 15,000 individuals in the community and approximately 6,300 incarcerated individuals. The mission of UDC is to ensure the safety of Utah communities while providing opportunities for individuals to improve their lives.
The Department works closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Board of Pardons and Parole, community treatment providers, other law enforcement agencies, and non-governmental organizations, all with the shared goal of fostering positive change in the lives of those we serve.
When an individual enters our custody or supervision, we develop a tailored plan to support their personal growth, help them make progress, and prepare them for reintegration into society as productive citizens. Whether serving a sentence of 30 days or 30 years, every individual has the potential for positive change, and we are committed to creating an environment where hope and transformation can thrive.
