Tyler Johnson

Tyler Johnson began his career with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office in 2009, progressing through roles including Corrections Officer, Patrol Officer, Detective, and Investigations Supervisor. He served as a Detective on the Sanpete Juab Major Crimes Taskforce (2015) and later as Commander of the Sanpete Major Crimes Taskforce (2016-2022).
Johnson joined the Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) in 2022, initially serving as the Law Enforcement Bureau Chief before being appointed Chief of the Professional Standards Bureau.
Since 2006, Johnson has served in the Utah Army National Guard, including one deployment to Iraq in 2007.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a specialization in forensic investigation, Johnson is a certified Subject Matter Expert in cellular investigations with LexisNexis ZETX. He possesses extensive experience in cellular forensics and analytics technology for investigations.
Additionally, he is a trained child forensic interviewer with over seven years of experience and previously instructed for the Utah Attorney General’s Office Children Justice Center Program.
His comprehensive investigative experience covers cases such as homicide, kidnapping, rape, missing persons, narcotics, internal investigations, and officer-involved critical incidents.
