REBECCA BROWN

Deputy Executive Director

Rebecca Brown was appointed as Deputy Executive Director for the Department of Corrections in August 2023. Previously, she served as Assistant Deputy Director in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) overseeing the Clinical Services Section as well as the Correctional Health Services transition to DHHS. She is currently serving in a governor-appointed role with the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) Sentencing Commission.

 

Prior to her role with DHHS, she spent nearly 23 years working in the local community non-profit arena, including foundational and pace setting work at the Salt Lake County Jail and in the community. These roles focused on treatment program development, successful journeys from incarceration to reentry, recidivism reduction, and community safety.

 

She studied at the University of Utah and holds a Masters Degree in Social Work with specialized training in Forensics, in addition to her LCSW license she is a Substance Use Disorders Counselor.  She has an undergraduate degree in Human Services and business management

 

Rebecca sees her role as an executive leader in the health and human services and correctional space as systemic; working to improve the overall health and life outcomes for those involved in the criminal justice system with a balanced focus on community safety, security and rehabilitation. She is committed to the important work ahead with the Utah Department of Corrections.
