BRIAN KENNEY

Safety, Risk & Standards Director

Brian Kenney has been with the Utah Department of Correction’s for 24 years. He started as the Health and Safety Officer for Utah Correctional Industries before transitioning to a department level Health and Safety Officer.

 

In 2007, Kenney promoted to the Law Enforcement Bureau as a Criminal Investigator where he served on the United Police Department’s Metro Gangs Board, SanPete/Juab County Major Crimes board, US Marshal Fugitive Task Force, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. In 2016, he transferred to a Captain assignment where he supervised the Department’s Transportation and CIRT units.

 

Kenney promoted to Deputy Warden in 2019, where he supervised the Transportation unit, Business Analysis for the Division, Inmate Classification and Assignment office and Correction Standards for the department and contracted county jails. He was appointed as Director of the newly formed Safety, Risk, and Standards Division in November 2023.

 

Brian has a B.S. degree from Columbia College in Business Management with a minor in Criminal Justice. A veteran, he served four years in the Navy and four years in the Utah Army National Guard.
