Tyler Johnson began his career with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office in 2009, serving multiple roles, including Corrections Officer, Patrol Officer, Detective, and Investigations Supervisor. Johnson was also assigned as a Detective on the Sanpete Juab Major Crimes Taskforce in 2015. Before his appointment with the Department of Corrections, he was the Commander of the Sanpete Major Crimes Taskforce since 2016. He was the UDC’s Law Enforcement Bureau Chief before taking the role as Chief of the Professional Standards Bureau.
Johnson has served in the Utah Army National Guard since 2006. He has held a variety of leadership positions during his service. He deployed with the guard in 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Johnson has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, specializing in forensic investigation. He has years of experience utilizing cellular forensics and analytics technology to conduct investigations and is a certified Subject Matter Expert in cellular investigations with LexisNexis ZETX. He is also a trained child forensic interviewer with over seven years of experience. He was also a forensic interview instructor for the Utah Attorney General’s Office Children Justice Center Program.
Tyler has a large amount of well-rounded investigative experience. His investigation experience includes homicide, kidnapping, rape, missing persons, drug trafficking, and internal investigations.
